Washington Circle Penthouse

A very low ceiling height was the challenge for this renovation. The owner wanted more crisp and bright spaces and unify the various ceiling heights. To maximize the height and deliver a creative solution providing more illumination throughout, I designed for the living room a pair of light coves which freed up the ceiling up to its maximum height and added sophistication. Soffits above the kitchen cabinets host ventilation, exhaust ductwork and upward lighting from the face of the soffit. Wall sconces were designed for the bathrooms and the “Schlitz’ Ingo Maurer lamp welcomes one into the foyer.  To add purity to the spaces, the floors are rectangular white-linen limestone tiles on a grid pattern and walls have a ‘shadow’ grove shoe-molding. The stair is composed of stainless steel treads cantilevering from a single stringer anchored to the wall.
